Drought: lack of rain. Some areas go so long with out rain even rivers dry up. But once it does rain look out, thus the pole with feet marked so you know if you can drive through. It gives a whole new meaning to flash flood.

the night before we raced a storm in similar terrain to our hotel. When land gets so dry it can’t absorb water quickly so flash floods can happen quite quickly. I’ve never seen one, and as much as I love disasters that’s one I wouldn’t want to see.
