Weekly Photo Challenge: Sea

A sea is defined as a salt water body of water with some connection to an ocean. But some bodies of water are so large, so sea-like, it’s hard to believe they aren’t classified as seas.

Here is a challenge for all of you, which of the photos below are seas and which are lakes? Hard to tell, right? I can’t wait to see your answers. I’ll reveal the answers next Wednesday.

Now I’d like to offer a few more ideas how we use “sea”.

Sea of Grass: Everglades National Park is often referred to as a Sea of Grass. It is part of an extensive water system from Lake Okeechobee to the Gulf of Mexico. With ocean access, we might be justified in calling it a sea.

Inland Sea: While the Great Salt Lake is very salty water, there is no access to the ocean, and therefore it’s just a lake.
